The Elizabeth Weiser Caswell Diabetes Institute provides leadership, coordination, and resources to enhance diabetes-related clinical care, research, and education at the University of Michigan.

The goal of the Elizabeth Weiser Caswell Diabetes Institute is to provide transformative diabetes care integrated with clinical research and coordinating informatics infrastructure to support the clinical care and research missions of the University of Michigan. The Elizabeth Weiser Caswell Diabetes Institute is also committed to the training and mentorship of trainees, faculty, and staff dedicated to the treatment of and research in diabetes and related disorders.

How We Lead

  • The Elizabeth Weiser Caswell Diabetes Institute provides the organization and administration to support and coordinate among the many diabetes related programs at the University of Michigan.
  • The Elizabeth Weiser Caswell Diabetes Institute works to connect with others that focus on diabetes at the local, regional, national and international levels.
  • The Elizabeth Weiser Caswell Diabetes Institute performs outreach to increase the impact and visibility of diabetes-related programs at the University of Michigan.

Our Mission

By supporting rigorous science and its integration with patient-centered clinical care, the Elizabeth Weiser Caswell Diabetes Institute leads the way to prevent, treat and cure diabetes, its complications, and related metabolic diseases.

Administration

The Elizabeth Weiser Caswell Diabetes Institute administrative hub, The Brehm Center, identifies opportunities to expand capabilities allowing better care for our diabetes patients, enhancing collaboration and connecting diabetes and metabolism researchers across the U of M campus, expanding education about the care and prevention of diabetes, and positioning the University of Michigan to engage in national diabetes leadership opportunities.
