The Caswell Diabetes Institute is committed to supporting diabetes-, obesity-, metabolism-, nutrition- and complications- (DOMNC) related educational/enrichment activities at the University of Michigan, ensuring the robust exchange of ideas and the stimulation of interactions and collaborations relevant to DOMNC-related research and care.
Calendar of Events
Annual Symposium
The Caswell Diabetes Institute Metabolism, Obesity, Nutrition, and Diabetes Symposium is an annual one-day event showcasing the research of early-stage investigators and innovative new research by CDI, MCDTR, MDRC, and MNORC members from across UM’s schools and departments. Additionally, the symposium features keynote talks from leading researchers and practitioners external to UM, a poster-session, and a data blitz.
CDI Seminar Series
The Caswell Diabetes Institute Seminar Series features:
- plenary seminar events addressing the broad interests in diabetes-, obesity-, metabolism-, nutrition-, and complications-related research and care across the University of Michigan campus and worldwide,
- exciting research from our own CDI faculty and trainees,
- translational and clinical research talks, and
-
three of CDI’s established research clubs (Integrative Aspects of Diabetes, Obesity, and Metabolism, Cellular Aspects of Diabetes, Obesity, and Metabolism, and Neuroendocrine Control of Metabolism), among others.
The seminar series runs from September through May at NCRC every Monday from 4-5pm.
Research Clubs
In partnership with the MCDTR, the MDRC, the MNORC, and the Department of Molecular & Integrative Physiology, the Caswell Diabetes Institute organizes five research clubs to facilitate interactions amongst investigators, trainees, and staff with shared research interests. The research club meetings occur monthly from September to May in a hybrid format.

Co-sponsored Seminars
The Caswell Diabetes Institute offers financial support for department/division seminar series speakers/events related to diabetes-, obesity-, metabolism-, nutrition-, and complications- (DOMNC) related research and care. These can be external speakers who are already scheduled as part of your department/division seminar series or speakers you would like to invite.
To submit a speaker for potential support, please provide the speaker’s name, affiliation, link to their website, a short comment on research topic, and how it relates to DOMNC-related research and care, and the date of their visit (if already scheduled). Please send your nomination(s) to michigandiabetes@umich.edu with the subject heading CDI Enrichment.
