ABOUT US
Building a sustained future of diabetes research requires more than just scientific breakthroughs—it demands a strong pipeline of well-trained, well-supported researchers. Effective training and mentoring at every career stage, from graduate students to junior faculty, are essential for driving innovation, fostering collaboration, and ensuring that diverse perspectives shape the field. By equipping researchers with critical skills and support, we not only accelerate scientific discovery but also strengthen the next generation of leaders dedicated to improving diabetes prevention, treatment, and care.
The CDI Training and Mentoring Program fosters a collaborative learning community for trainees and mentors in diabetes and obesity research. Led by Kanakadurga Singer, MD, and Dave Bridges, PhD, the program supports career development, peer mentoring, and skill-building through targeted activities, including:
- Grant Writing Support: Trainee writing groups with peer reviews and faculty-led sessions.
- Networking & Community Building: Trainee social hours, postdoctoral recruitment events, and mentorship discussions.
- Mentor Engagement: Workshops on effective mentoring, recruitment strategies, inclusive training practices, and national networking opportunities.
- Skill Development & Outreach: Hands-on experiences, including high school outreach on nutrition, Q&A sessions for grant preparation, and professional development through Women Inspiring and Elevating Leadership in Diabetes (WIELD).
