The University of Michigan’s Caswell Diabetes Institute was honored to be a prominent sponsor for the Breakthrough T1D Journey event in Ann Arbor this fall. The annual community gathering is an uplifting event dedicated to raising awareness and support for type 1 diabetes research and care.
The evening brought together families, advocates, and researchers to honor the millions of people living with diabetes. Attendees heard moving personal stories of perseverance, resiliency, and hope. Elizabeth Weiser Caswell and Diana Rooks, distinguished speakers and advocates, delivered a warm and motivating address that underscored the importance of research and innovation
U-M CDI researchers were there in force, connecting with the community, sharing updates on their groundbreaking work, and helping raise essential funds. A highlight of the event was the unveiling of the Breakthrough T1D Cardio Renal Center of Excellence, a pioneering initiative led by Dr. Matthias Kretzler. Dr. Kretzler spoke about the center's mission to advance research on diabetes-related complications and improve long-term health outcomes for patients.
The evening reinforced our commitment to turning scientific discoveries into real-world solutions. It strengthened our partnership with the patients and supporters, driving progress toward better treatments and ultimately, a cure for type 1 diabetes.
