Research
The goal of my research program is to develop dietary approaches for reducing cancer risk. Much of this includes targeting obesity-induced changes in metabolism. This work has included both clinical trials and animal studies. We have developed methodology for eliciting dietary changes that target key mechanisms in processes that impact on cancer risk. Current studies are investigating the interplay of obesity and background diet in modulating the efficacy of preventive agents using biomarker endpoints. Finally, I am interested in applying the methodology we developed to elicit dietary changes in research settings to community and clinical settings. My current grants include the Early Phase Clinical Cancer Prevention Consortium that conducts Phase I and II studies of novel preventive agents (www.clincap.org) and the MyBestGI Study (www.mybestgi.org) that tests an app-supported method for improving diet in persons at high risk for colon cancer.
