Michigan Diabetes Research Center (MDRC)

Laboratory Highlights
- Supports investigators interested in assays related to diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension.
- Analytical methods include general blood chemistry, chemiluminescence, immunoassay, radioimmunoassay, multiplexing, and ELISA.
- Provides investigators with unique assurances of continuity and method consistency for both short-term and long-term studies.
- Continual implementation and validation of new assays to meet the specific and changing needs of investigators.
- Development of aliquoting schemes for the sample collection process that ensures the validity of the assay results and help minimize collection costs.
- Randox Daytona + and Siemens IMMULITE automated analyzers offer many individual assays verified by correlation studies supported by the hospital's clinical laboratory.
How We Serve Your Research Needs
Consultative Services
When an investigator reaches out to inquire about our services, it starts the consultation process where we discuss available assays, sample type restrictions, and special requirements such as inhibitors or stabilizers.
Process includes:
- Review your project and develop an aliquoting scheme for the assays you have requested
- Advise investigators on the sample collection process for selected assays
- Discuss available assays, sample type restrictions, and special requirements such as inhibitors or stabilizers
- Develop an aliquoting scheme for the sample collection process ensuring the validity of the assay results and minimizing collection costs

Multiplex/ ELISA Services
- Multiplex
- Luminex LX-200 instrumentation capable of multiplexing multiple analytes simultaneously over a broad concentration range from a very small sample volume.
- We offer a multiplex panel brochure which includes 73 human panels, 26 mouse panels, 17 rat panels, and 16 other animal panels including pig, sheep, and cow panels.
- ELISA
- We run ELISAs for investigators who do not have the equipment and/or the expertise to run it themselves.
- We can run an investigator’s specific ELISA, or help them find an appropriate ELISA using trusted vendors such as R&D Systems, Crystal Chem, and Salimetrics.
