Who We Are

The University of Michigan is a global leader in research into the causes of and potential treatments for diabetes and related diseases (including diabetes complications and obesity), with over 300 faculty performing studies related to diabetes. Of these, approximately 50 faculty members, with over $300 million in total funding, focus exclusively on diabetes-related basic and clinical research. In addition to this strong cohort of individual investigators, the University of Michigan has multiple nationally-funded center programs to support diabetes research. The Elizabeth Weiser Caswell Diabetes Institute serves to support these investigators and centers, and to coordinate among the various diabetes-related research programs at the University of Michigan.
